Happy to be a Catalyst for Change
Background
Uma couldn’t sleep all night after a disagreement over property with her siblings. She felt powerless, because they knew her weakness and were using it to emotionally manipulate her into giving them what they wanted. (They threatened to withdraw emotionally and physically, and take her father too, who was too unwell to choose on his own). She was angry and felt hurt and betrayed by her family. Flashes of past events kept coming up.
More importantly, she couldn’t feel her body at all. She had gone numb. The body goes numb when it perceives it would be extremely painful if it doesn't. It is built to minimize pain and choose pleasure (based on its past experience and core subconscious beliefs). That was when she reached out to me.
History
Uma has been on a self-awareness journey with me for some time (especially in the last year). We had done some personal therapy sessions and she joined group sessions for expansion of awareness and consciousness. So she was aware of what being present in the body meant and was capable of regulating and grounding herself to be in the present moment. But this particular day her body was not grounding at all. She had dissociated from the body - the pain was too much for her body to feel safe enough to show up without support and a sense of safety.
But the body is always looking to find resolution.
Action Taken
So her body nudged her into asking me for a session ASAP. And I was available for a session in a couple of hours.(Taking that step to follow the intuition and ask for help is a big part in healing. It is difficult for most of us to ask for help or commit to our own peace and happiness. Even more when we have to pay for it - as if we are not worth spending any money on.)
Session
In the session, with support, she was able to ground herself and as she felt held and safe, her trauma and associated pain surfaced bit by bit. Her body was still and unmoving when we started. She was sad and looking down to begin with. Later, when she felt held and safe, she started to move her limbs (denoting release of stuck energy and ability and willingness to move on), and as we ended, she had a smile on her face and clarity about the way ahead. She looked up into my eyes.
A-ha Moment
The big A-ha moment came for her she said when - "I regained my power-centre". She realised that she had given them the power to control her by being afraid to lose something. She was afraid to lose their love and affection, her father's love and affection. Holding on to the house gave her some feeling of control - but they threatened to leave the house - taking away the one thing she valued most - love and attachment.
Taking Back Her Power
In the session, she was able to take back all her power and freedom from them and return their energies back to them. She created space for herself to choose from a number of possible solutions to the problem. She felt liberated and was able to put things in a different perspective - money, love, values. She felt confident of choosing what felt right to her from the heart space and had the clarity and confidence to communicate it to her family.
The Change
Where she came in with the idea of feeling emotionally blackmailed and having no choice, she went back with possibilities and the confidence and clarity about handling it. We worked with Somatic Experiencing integrated with some processes from Hypnotherapy(Energy Exchange), setting clear boundaries and reclaiming personal space.
Like Uma says - "Solution is not always logical, but it is pretty simple. Only your heart-brain can understand it."
Outcome
A few days later when I spoke with her to ask her permission to share this, she was feeling very light and expansive and happy with how the whole issue got sorted out. She also said - " I feel complete now. I realised that by being willing to spend on getting help, I am important and I'm ready to release the resistance. I took responsibility for my life."
Helps to Reach out for Help
Its amazing how much can shift in 1 hour( And all the other growth and healing work done earlier!).
Sometimes, I feel lucky to be in this profession. How did I get so lucky?
