Having a Goal

I participated in the workshop 'The Champion's Mindset' by Hari over the weekend. It was very tough for me because I have always felt 'blank' and confused whenever somebody talked about dreams, ambitions or goals. I don't think its because I don't want to achieve anything in life or make a difference, but because I'm afraid to accept them myself and take the responsibilty of achieving them. I wouldn't have any excuses for not being rich or successful or famous if I set some goals for myself and went about achieving them.

Anyway, what I'm trying to say is that, in a workshop setup, I could not escape from myself and therefore had to ask myself uncomfortable questions about my dreams and goals and my capabilities and skills. Which I did. And surprise ... apart from regular goals like lots of money, and very ambitious (though improbable) goals like wanting to sing(I don't do any other than with my daughter Anjali(she's two-and-a-half)), the goal that came out of nowhere(i guess it came from the deepest recesses of my mind) and which surprised me the most was to 'write a book'!

We also set deadlines for our goals and prepared a detailed action plan which included taking stock of our resources and filling the gaps.

I don't have the writing skills for it I think, so I took a first step(wow!) and started this blog for practice. I don't have the hook in place, but i'm working on it... about relationships, feelings, communication etc... the areas that have been most difficult for me , i think... probably with some tips/excercises for readers to deal with similar issues.... i don't know.. its all very fluid at the moment!

Thank you Hari! May you help millions of people achieve their dreams through your workshops and books.

  1. Yippee! You are off on your writing journey which I always maintained is very therapeutic. (And if we make a few millions the therapy gets better.) Thanks for all the kind words about the workshop and for getting started on your dreams right away. Good going Shobhs and I will be reading your blog regularly and will be watching your progress on the book...and by the way, I think you write well and wittily too
